The Ws and Hs

We shall not cease from exploration and the end of all our exploring will be to arrive where we started and know the place for the first time.

Just like any other day

Posted by weha on 17th March 2008

March 17 has passed. My birthday has come and gone. Let me take a quick flashback. On the days before my birthday, I only had one wish and that is that my grandma would be healthy on her birthday, March 16, a day before mine. It turned out that she was. So on the eve of my birthday, I didn’t expect anything anymore. I decided to to go through my birthday just like any other day.

I woke up at 9 in the morning. Ate chocolate doughnut for breakfast. And then spent the whole day helping my uncle build the basement. I put up some dry wall, cut them, screw them to the wood planks, cut some more, and put up some more. From 9 to 5, with 30 minutes lunch break.

Why would I want to work?,I asked myself. It’s my birthday, it’s supposed to be special. Nobody wants to work on their birthday right? I even cut my finger (not a big cut, just tiny itsi bitsy little a scratch on my pinky).

Well, I don’t know. I really felt just like every other day. Except it’s just another different activity. Well, I guess it’s because I’m having a spring break holiday for a week. Had I been at school today, I’m sure it’ll be so much different. But I must say I’m kinda glad I helped my uncle today.

You see, not more than two weeks ago, my chemistry class friend, An, mentioned that my palm hands are soft. He said that I hadn’t been working with my hands too much. Well, I didn’t say anything in front of him. But in my heart, I said, I know!!! I know!!!! Even if you didn’t say it out loud, I already know!!!!

The fact is, yes, I don’t do much labor work. So yeah, I decided to help my uncle. I learned new things, I trained my body (those dry walls were heavy!!!), and I also needed to be creative. You see? This is not a burden, to be working on my birthday. IT’S A GIFT!!!!! I was given an opportunity to learn. And I thank God for giving me this opportunity, just like any other day He has blessed me with.

At the end of the day, I went to eat at Famous Dave’s restaurant with my uncle, aunt, and cousins. Boy, I’ve never been that full since I came to US. Lotsa potato!!!! French fires, potato salad, and mashed potato!!! YUM!!!! So there goes my birthday.

I want to thank everybody who has sent me birthday greetings. You’ve made my special just-like-any-other-day day become a special day-unlike-any-other day. I miss you all and wish you all the best too. God bless!!! ^^

PS : Your sms was the first greeting I read!!!! Miss you!!! ^^

Sporty day

Posted by weha on 14th March 2008

1:03 in the morning, Mid-West time. Next week is spring break. HOLIDAY!!!!!!

Today (or yesterday) I participated in first annual indoor dualthon - or biathlon as I prefer it called - at Century fitness center. It’s 60 minutes cardio, consist of 20 minutes run, 20 minutes bike, and 20 minutes running again.

1st session I ran 1.82 miles. And then I biked 7.24 miles. Lastly, I ran 2.00 more miles. The total is 11.06 miles. I’m not the best. Duh! What do you expect from me who jogs once a week, often forget to eat lunch, and has a ton of homework? Win the Olympic or something?

But yeah, it was fun, especially the second running session. I’ve never ran so fast since I came here. I recalled the same sensation I felt when I used to run in high school. Bet my legs will hurt tomorrow morning. And I wish I can bike as fast too. 7.2 miles in 20 minutes = 21.6 mph. Wow!!! That is fast!!!! I wouldn’t dare bike that fast with real bike. Hehehe.

After I completed the dualthon, I went to gym to play basketball. Ahh… yes, my long lost love. The place where I truly feel the joy of running. I almost had a fight because some people selfishly use the wide court that no other team can play full court. But yeah, you know me. I never look for trouble. I just walked to the side court and started playing with some other friends. I wouldn’t waste my breath for pointless argument with compassionless, arrogant, big headed, big mouthed people - sorry.

And there goes my story for today. I’m supposed to be sleeping now coz I got study group tomorrow morning. hehehe. So, I’ll leave this for now. To my friends who are having party at Khou’s place, have fun!! For everybody else, Have a nice and safe spring break. See you after holiday.

PS : Champions League quarter final –> Liverpool FC vs Arsenal FC
Good luck reds!!!!

Spring is around the corner

Posted by weha on 13th March 2008

Temperature has been rising this past couple few days. Most of the snow melted away, forming a tiny stream down the hill, accompanying me on my way to and back from school.

Oh well. Season changes, but school life is still as same as days past. Homeworks, quizzes, club activities, hanging out with friends, go home, sleep, back to school in the morning, and everything starts all over again.

Although, I must say that it’s not as boring as before anymore. LitMag is taking shape, poetry slam is coming, Phi Theta Kappa newsletter is on its way to printer, and my tongue is burning from Buffalo Wild Wing’s Blazin’ chicken wings.

It does feels good to feel warm again while walking outside, though. All those times walking with the chilling winds, a bit o’ change feels nice. I’m waking up fresh each morning now. Finally figured out the good sleeping schedule for me.

Nothing else exciting happened, so I think I’ll end it here now.

PS : good luck for Liverpool FC in Champions League quarter finals!!!!! YNWA ^^

Poetry

Posted by weha on 6th March 2008

Well, I met this John Foxx writer last Tuesday. He’s a famous writer here in US for art  and poetry in healing. We had some workshop about poetry for healing. He has done many research and workshops that shows health improvement through poetry making. And this is one poem I wrote at the writing session of the his workshop. Happy reading… ^^

My Dear Hometown

            I’ve been dreaming
every night. Of my dear home town
far away across the globe

With the earthquakes
that shake our roofs

With the litters and garbage
along the street side

With the fights and brawls
that bring fear along

With the starvation
and cries of hungry babies

And with other bad things
which had brought me together
with the ones I love

Many expectations…

Posted by weha on 5th March 2008

Well, I submitted my application to be student ambassador this morning. Oh, I’m so excited! I really want to be student ambassador. Since my friend said it’s easy job and good payment too. Hehehe. But I’m also eager to test my relation skills. And maybe I can meet international students from all around the world. Yipeee!!!! A little sad, though, that I may not be able to become a tutor. Oh well. People still ask me to tutor them anyway. Hehehe.

Also, I finally got clearer info for my transfer to U of M next year. Wah, looking forward to transfer there. There’ll be more things to do, more places to explore, and more people to meet. Have to keep up my grades!!! Jia yo!!!! Although, as ucok said, school can’t be just about getting As!!! Doesn’t mean that I’ll be fine with a B though. I shall still strive for the best!!!!

Phi Theta Kappa newsletter is halfway done. Have to finish it before tomorrow!!! Caleb, where is your article???!!! I can’t wait to officially be the Director of Communications. Sounds cool, huh? ^^

Writer’s Bloc literature and art magazine is in layout editing phase!!!Thank God we’ve finished selecting the best art and literature by Century College students. And I can’t wait until April for it’s release date. There’s poetry slam too!!!

Wait… How about homeworks… Well, I expect I’ll have the will to do it tomorrow. Hehehe. Naughty me. Been lacking diligentness nowadays. Ehehehe. So that’s it for now. Expect me to write more in this blog. ^^
